Abdelouahab Zaid, Secretary General of Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, showcased UAE’s position as “the premier center of the date industry in the world” at the 11th Abu Dhabi Date Palm Exhibition.
“This is the number 14 event. Before it in Abu Dhabi we had seven or eight others, which means more than 20 festivals and date palm festivals have been organized in UAE,” Zaid told Morocco World News.
“We do also organize festivals in about 10 countries. So far we did organize 63 festivals in Egypt, in Jordan, in Mauritania,” Zaid explained, detailing the Award’s extensive international footprint.
He especially mentioned their long-standing participation in Morocco’s Erfoud festival since 2010, which he insisted “was inaugurated by His Majesty the King” in 2011.
“Since 1998 Khalifa International Award organized the international date palm conference attended by an average of 450 to 500 scientists from around 50 countries,” Zaid pointed out.
Looking ahead, he extended “an open invitation” to Moroccan colleagues for the eighth conference in April 2026, which will include “the first international conference on the red palm weevil.”
“We have more than 90 pavilions representing about 20 countries,” Zaid noted, listing participants from Egypt, Jordan, Mauritania, Morocco, Pakistan, Mexico, and others, with plans to add Iraq and Syria next year.
The exhibition runs alongside Global Food Week, positioning Abu Dhabi as a global hub for agricultural innovation and food security partnerships.
