During the 11th Abu Dhabi Date Palm Exhibition, part of Global Food Week 2025, international consultant Abdellah Ouahabi revealed to Morocco World News a groundbreaking project to document the UAE’s date palm varieties through a digital platform developed by Erth Zayed Philanthropies and the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation.
Ouahabi, former professor at Cadi Ayyad University and ex-head of the FAO office in Saudi Arabia, leads the initiative that, for the first time, will compile detailed data on each UAE date palm variety, its characteristics, and geographical distribution to support researchers, policymakers, and agricultural stakeholders.
The collaborative project, involving ADAFSA, the UAE Ministry of Climate Change, and regional experts, follows a structured timeline, with the first phase running from September 1 to December 31. The second phase will take place during the Bessar and Rutab stages between May and July 2026.
