Mohammed VI Champions Cup: Raja Casablanca to Play Al-Ittihad August

Rabat – In a statement published on April 27, the Union of Arab Football Associations (UAFA) announced the date of the final game of the Mohammed VI Champions Cup between Raja Casablanca and Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad.

The final of the Arab Club Champions Cup, held under the name Mohammed VI Champions Cup on the 29th season, is set to take place on August 21 in Rabat. The two clubs will compete for a $6 million (MAD 53 million) cash prize.

On the journey to the final game, Raja Casablanca beat Palestinian football club Hilal Al-Quds in the first round, their rivals Wydad Casablanca in the second round in a dramatic second-leg match, before winning against Algeria’s MC Alger in the quarter-finals.

In the semi-finals, the Moroccan giants played Egypt’s Ismaily SC. The Moroccans overcame their first-leg 0-1 loss in Egypt and won 3-0 in the second-leg, on January 11, at the Marrakech stadium, making the aggregate score 3-1 in their favor.

Since their last title win in 2006, this is the closest the Moroccan team has come in several years.

Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad Club beat Lebanon’s Al-Ahed in the first round, UAE’s Al-Wasl in the second round, Moroccan Club Olympic Safi in the quarter-finals, and Saudi’s Al-Shabab in the semi-finals.

Raja Casablanca now ranks second in Botola Pro, the Moroccan league, with 26 points, one point behind the top of the table, Wydad Casablanca, with one game in hand for the red team.

In the CAF Confederation Cup, Raja Casablanca tops the standing of Group D with 15 points, collected from five consecutive wins.

The 2018 title-holder will play against Zambian Football Club Nkana at Mohammed V stadium, on April 28.

Raja Casablanca recently changed head coach Jamal Sellami, signing the Tunisian Lassaad Chebbi after a series of bad performances, including the 0-2 loss in the Moroccan derby against Wydad Casablanca.
