Moroccan Man Rescues Children from Burning Building in France
Rabat – The story of Moroccan hero Mouhsine Sbiti is going viral after he helped rescue two children from a burning building in Grenoble, France on Tuesday.  Video footage of the July 21 incident has gone viral on social media, showing an apartment building engulfed in flames. An anxious crowd in the street looked up in fear at a toddler hanging from a third-floor window. The toddler’s 10-year-old brother managed to let go of the 3-year-old’s arm, allowing the crowd below to catch him. The 10-year-old then jumped to the same group of men who caught his brother.  Moroccan national Mouhsine Sbiti was among the crowd. The shock of the 10-year-old’s falling body ended up breaking Sbiti’s arm and landing him in the hospital, but his only concern was for the life and well-being of the two traumatized children. The group of men who saved the two brothers told French media that the boys’ father had left for work, while their mother was out buying groceries at the time of the near-fatal building fire. #BRAVO ! Les circonstances de l’incendie ne sont pas encore connues.#HKM Publiée par HKM sur Mardi 21 juillet 2020 After successfully catching the two children, the group of men carried them to an ambulance that was waiting nearby. Mouhsine Sbiti, 34, has been hospitalized since the incident. He is currently recovering from surgery to fix his broken arm at the University Hospital (CHU) of Grenoble. The two kids were also transferred to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. No fatalities have been reported among the building’s residents. Mouhsine Sbiti’s heroism is not the first noble act attributed to everyday Moroccans in Europe. On April 28, two Moroccans acted quickly to save the life of a woman falling from a window of a bed and breakfast in the Italian province of Lecce. The two men had noticed that the 70-year-old woman was preparing to attempt suicide. Before she could, they scaled the building and managed to push her back inside her room. The incident took place during the holy month of Ramadan and earned praise among Italian society, including that of local imam Saifeddine Maaroufi, who highlighted the two young men’s bravery in a Facebook post. “Neither the danger to their own lives, nor the fact that they are fasting, on this Ramadan day, prevented these two Moroccan brothers from saving the life of a seventy-year-old Italian lady,” wrote the imam.
